GRD developed a unique designed OPA-1 antenna by applying antenna design and electromagnetic propagation theory to conduct research, scientific study and experimentation necessary to develop a R&D design and Engineering Development Model of a multiband HF vertical antenna capable of resonant operation without the use of a coupler or tuner in four selected bands in the 5 to 30 MHz range for STRATCOMWINGONE utilization at E-6 alert facilities.  This design is very inexpensive compared to commercially available antennas and in addition does not required a coupler,  which represents a new improved capability for communications warfighters represented by the fact that the antenna system has no active components and a resulting unparalleled high efficiency and MTBF as compared to typical mast antenna coupler/tuner systems.  GRD also developed a SPA-2M VLF/HF receive antenna for applications at E-6 alert facilities and other test Facilities used by the E-6 community.  The SPA-2M is an active antenna which provides receive capability from Very Low Frequency (14 kHz) to High Frequency (HF) above 30 MHz.  At a height of only 8 ½ feet the SPA-2M is exceptionally short for a VLF antenna.  The SPA-2M uses a VN‑88K Metal Oxide Substrate Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) preamplifier which provides both high dynamic range and low noise figure.
